Estimados/as Académicos/as,
Les comunicamos que el viernes 14 de abril a las 12:30 hrs, se realizará el Seminario del Departamento de Administración, en el que se presentará el trabajo titulado: "Increasing savings behavior by affecting the vividness in connection with the future self: A field experiment".
Expone: Tomás Reyes, profesor Pontificia Universidad de Chile
Abstract: Individuals tend to have difficulties saving enough for retirement. Not saving enough for retirement can negatively affect retirees’ quality of life. Many strategies have been developed to try to solve this issue. Besides the classical approaches of awarding monetary rewards or tax benefits to those who save for their pensions, researchers have explored complementary ways to increase the connection with the future self. The argument is that by increasing the vividness in the thought process of the future self, individuals tend to act more in their future interests. In the present study, we test this idea through a field experiment with real users from an investment company. We have three conditions, one with no future self-reference, another with a text referencing the future self, and the last with a text referencing the future plus an aged picture of themselves. Our results show that the more the intervention triggers a vivid connection to the future self, the more likely people will save for retirement.
El evento se realizará en la sala H-307 y en modalidad híbrida.
Saludos cordiales,
