Autores - José Ignacio Barrera
Abstract - The aim of this paper is to analyze the microfoundation of the opportunity recognition capabilities of innovation in Latin American firms when they are looking for internationalization. We validate an instrument to measure the dynamic capability of opportunity recognition on innovation practices in Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela and Mexico. We use a sample of 721 Latin American firms to validate the reliability of this instrument. This study identifies 4 constructs that form part of the dynamic capability of innovation opportunities: (1) The Detection of Innovation, (2) Knowledge Management Activities, (3) The Intention to Innovate, and (4) The Impact of Innovation. Our results suggest that opportunity recognition is a dynamic capability that depends on the convergence process between the intention to innovate, innovation detection, knowledge management, and innovation impact. This work contributes to existing literature of innovation management by providing evidence with respect to the ability to recognize opportunities of innovation abroad has an impact on a successful internationalization of Latin American companies.
