Este Viernes 11 de Mayo de 2018 se llevará a cabo la Sexagésima Primera Sesión del Seminario Interno FEN donde se exponen trabajos en progreso de académicos y avances de tesis de estudiantes.

Título: "The effect of pretrial detention of non-guilty people on labor market outcomes."

Abstract. Pretrial detention has been increasingly applied in Chile during the last decade, going from 63.1 per 100,000 in 2007 to 88.8 in 2017. As a consequence of this, the number incarcerated before the final verdict (that declared them non-guilty) increased 64.4% in this period. This paper investigates the effects of these pretrial detention on employment and wages. Using a data set that combines Chilean administrative data for pre-trial incarceration and labor market between 2006 and 2016 (at individual level), we show a negative impact of pretrial detention of non-guilty people on their wages and over the probability of finding a formal job.
